Vitamin Injections

Vitamin injections provided by Alex – BSc (Hons) Adult Nursing at her Saturday clinic.

Vitamin B12

The body needs vitamin B12 to produce adequate red blood cells. 90-100% of a B12 injection is metabolised as it is injected directly into the bloodstream whereas when taken orally (diet/capsule) only a small percentage is digested and many people do not make intrinsic factor and therefore are unable to absorb the B12 when taken orally.

Benefits of injection include : Increased energy levels, Improved sleep, better mood, mental clarity, aids weight loss, balanced immune system and higher metabolism, larger dose metabolised.

Frequency : two doses 2 weeks apart (loading dose) then maintained every 6-8 weeks.

Vitamin C

Vitamin C is a natural antioxidant which works to protect the body and prevent illness. Also working to promote and aid healing. It is vital for healthy skin, blood vessels, cartilage and bones. When taken orally the body is only able to absorb 15% and can cause irritation to the stomach. Vitamin C deficiency makes the body feel sluggish, rundown, tired and prone to recurrent illness.

Benefits of injection include : Overall improved health, Skin pigmentation reduction, less irritation on stomach than oral supplements, boost immune system, reduced fatigue, aids wound healing.

Frequency : Consultation required (commonly monthly).

Vitamin D

Vitamin D regulates calcium and phosphate metabolism, working as a hormone within the body. The body naturally produces vitamin D when in direct sunlight and is essential in providing the body the means to absorb calcium in foods. Therefore people who do not spend time outside, wear covering clothing when they are outside and are within highly polluted areas suffer with vitamin D deficiency.

Biotin

Biotin also known as vitamin H or B7 is B complex vitamin found in certain foods. When injected it works to support a healthy nervous system and improves the basic protein which creates hair growth and boost skin and nail health. As it is a water-soluble vitamin it isn't easily stored within the body and any excess is then passed through. Due to this it requires regular intake to avoid deficiency. When given as an intramuscular injection it is more effective as the full dose is able to be metabolised.

Benefits on injection : Supports healthy cell growth, strengthens hair, improves brittle nails, glowing skin, antiaging benefits, prevention of hair loss and boosts enzyme production.

Frequency : twice weekly for 6 weeks then monthly.

All vitamin injections are intramuscular injections with minimal side effects, non can be given during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
